CORPORATE SUPPORT

Corporate Giving

The Broad Stage at Santa Monica and The Edye (formerly, the Madison Project) are part of a much larger commitment by Santa Monica College and the community of Santa Monica to the performing arts in southern California. The aim of the Santa Monica Performing Arts Center is to increase cultural activities, community involvement, K-12 arts education, and awareness of the performing arts in Santa Monica and the Westside. This project is also a lasting commitment to the Santa Monica College community, and the Los Angeles region as a whole. Our goal is to bring new and future generations of artists and audiences together to expand and renew the possibilities and promise of the arts.

While Los Angeles County boasts numerous venues that present a vibrant array of performing arts genres and styles, a multi-purpose performance venue for theater, dance, music and arts education is surprisingly lacking on L.A.’s sprawling Westside. Given its versatility, accessibility, collaborative spirit, and educational backdrop, the Center is poised to become one of the most energetic and magnetic performance venues in Los Angeles, and The cultural focal point of L.A.’s populous Westside. It will provide a venue for emerging and seasoned artists alike that nurtures their maturation as performers. Additionally, the Center will form synergistic partnerships with like venues in the area on select engagements, sharing programming costs and target audiences, and operating its own box office to keep the cost of attending performances reasonable for audience members.

In 2002, a capital campaign was launched to build the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center at the site of Madison Elementary School. The project broke ground on January 10, 2005, and is on-track for completion in 2008. In early 2006, a capital campaign concluded, havingraised $38 million for construction from both public and private sources under the leadership of Campaign Chair (and SMC Alumnus), Dustin Hoffman, and Director, Dale Franzen.Today, with construction near completion, and the Madison Project Foundation’s independent501(c)(3) status in place, focus has shifted to planning for the theater’s Gala Opening, Inaugural Season, and an endowment fund to support artist procurement and mountingof showseach year. At the present time, fundraising goals are focused on raising capital from outreach to corporations, foundations, and individuals.

To move forward and succeed with a project of this magnitude, we need to partner with established corporate leadership at the highest level of philanthropy. We are in need of substantial financial commitments from corporate champions of the arts is needed to collaborate with The Broad Stage at Santa Monica in reaching our goals. Part of our Mission is that we will “strive to promote artistic excellence, creativity, collaboration and the free exchange of ideas in an open, caring community of learners”.
